How
to get into town from the Airport
If
you’re traveling with someone, sharing a cab may
be your best option.
Cab
prices from the airport may vary greatly. If you decide
to take a cab from the airport, make sure you take a
TAXI COMUM (literally, "common taxi"), as opposed
to a cab referred to as RADIO TAXI or other special-service
type of cab.
If
you take a TAXI COMUM, expect to pay NO LESS than 100
reais (approximately 59 dollars, considering an exchange
rate of 1,70).
If
you’re traveling by yourself, it might be a better
deal to take a bus into town. There is a bus called Airport
Service, and it can take you to different parts of São
Paulo.
How
to get your tickets:
When you leave the customs area and find yourself on the
ground floor lobby (wing A), walk out of the lobby and
turn right. Walk for about 40 meters, and you will see
a sign on your right that says AIRPORT SERVICE. You can
pay for your ticket (R$28, or around US$ 16) with credit
card.

(there
is an icon for an English version of the page at the
bottom left corner of the page).
If
you’re staying at the Howard Johnson Hotel (recommended
on our conference site), the best thing to do is to take
the Airport Service bus to Avenida Paulista (on their
website, look for “Guarulhos Airport – Paulista
Avenue and Augusta Street Hotels Circuit), and get off
at the Ibis Hotel (on Paulista Av. itself). The bus driver
will ask you where you intend to get off the bus. If
he happens not to, just tell him “Ibis Paulista” (pronounced “ee-bees” in
Portuguese).
Once you get there, you will have to take a cab to the
hotel – which should cost another US$ 15, depending
on what time you get to the city and the usual heavy traffic).
If
you’re staying at the Lorena Flat Hotel, you should
still do the same thing, except that is much closer to
Ibis Paulista than the Howard Johnson Hotel (the latter,
however, is closer to the university).
How to get to USP from the Howard Johnson Hotel:
For
you to have an idea of the distance between that hotel
and the “Cidade Universitária” (the
campus), take a look at the map:

It is almost certain that we will have a free van service
from that hotel to the conference site. Please wait for
more information, as we get closer to the conference date.
Meanwhile,
in case you are wondering, a cab ride from the Howard
Johson hotel to the “Faculdade de Letras” (the
building where the conference will happen), on Avenida
Professor Luciano Gualberto, would take you about 20
minutes (again, depending on traffic) and would cost
you about R$30 (around US$ 18).

the location of the conference site, please check:
