Descrição

Resumo: "In Judea of the second half of the fifth century BCE, Ezra, who was a priest and a scribe, played a role that is reminiscent of the one Manuel da Nóbrega will play in Brazil, in the second half of the 16th century CE. The two men acted on behalf of their king and in the name of God, while navigating the tensions between the people of the land and the colonizers (who in both cases could refer to themselves as the people of Israel). The lecture will explore how the comparison between the two theological-political missions can inform us about Brazilian and Jewish histories."
